Cowbelly Traveling Roadshow!

Last weekend I make the trek to Boston to attend a pet photography workshop by Jamie of Cowbelly Pet Photography. I have been a long-time fan of Jamie’s work and was thrilled to have the chance to meet and learn from her. And being surrounded by a room full of fellow pet photographers was inspirational in itself. The workshop experience was invaluable and has given me a great deal of perspective on my business and changes that need to be made (lest I lose my sanity and my husband). It’s all a learning experience.

One of my favorite parts of the workshop was the location shoot where we all got to shoot the four fantastic doggy models. Yay for class participation! Here is a shot of Jamie meeting our first model, an english bulldog named Thatcher. I’m pretty sure she was loving all the attention…

Thatcher’s cute little nugget leg…

Another model, an energetic puggle named Remi…

Some bonding time with a very handsome black lab named Buddy. One of the things I love about Jamie is that she puts the animals first. They are more important than anything else and it shows in her work and in the way that she interacts with them…

One of the best parts of my trip was getting to shack up with Boston resident and fellow pet photographer, Li Ward of Fat Orange Cat Studio. Check out her work, it pretty much rocks! She and her husband were gracious enough to take me in for the weekend, which I’m so thankful for! And it was a blast to have a weekend full of photography-geek talk. 🙂  Here is Li, with another one of the models… a chocolate poodle named Marley…

And a solo shot of Marley…

  • Sarah - These are beautiful shots April! I went to the Chicago workshop and an equally amazing time! Wouldn’t it be great if all the workshop attendees from every city could get together in one setting talk shop?! Was the last shot of Marley with a 50mm 1.4? Beautiful bokeh!

  • April - Thanks guys. It was a blast. Sarah – that would rock if we could all get together! It’d be so much fun. I’m pretty sure the last shot was taken w/ my 35L. It’s my fave & I probably shoot w/ it 70% of the time.

  • beth - oh I wish I could have been there!!! It would have been great to meet someone close to me that does dog photography! My husband is tired of my “shop-talk” :). Looks like a lot of fun. I just love the bulldog images.
