When I look out my front office window, I see the butterfly bush and it’s purple flowers. So far this year, it has only been visited by bees. But when I came home from this morning’s engagment session, I saw this…

  • sarah - alright april…..now you need to set up an etsy shop and make notecards and prints of this to sell ๐Ÿ™‚

  • becky serpe - this is so pretty!

I’ve been having a streak of small dog sessions recently but the streak was broken last weekend with the lab shoot that I posted below and this one, with a very handsome Vizsla named Toby…

I absolutely love his looooong, skinny legs…

One of the two cats… Spice… who totally hammed it up for the camera. I can’t tell you how much I love the light here…

  • AmandaD - Love the Vizsla! I know a blogging Toby the Vizsla….wonder if it’s the same one.

  • Meredith Perdue - Oh, I cannot wait! Very handsome, indeed!

  • chrissy - i’m so so so excited to see the rest of this shoot!

  • Christine - Oh my gosh, Toby and Spice are too cute!! Great work! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Krista - I can’t wait for you to take pics of my new 4-legged nephew!! He’s gonna be soo handsome! Only a few more weeks until monica can pick him up!!

  • Nick - Wow toby is looking awesome ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Jennie - What a great session. Your right the light is fabulous in that shot.

  • claire - love that detail shot of his hind leg!

Now this is the way to make an entrance! Many of you have probably already seen this video as it is making it’s way around Facebook, but if not it’ll bring a smile to your face … and perhaps make you tear up if you’re a sap like me.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Rachel Kelly - I vote for: tear up like a sap, hahaha ๐Ÿ™‚ Awesome!

  • Debbie - I want to be their friend.

  • Caitlin - hahahaha I just posted this on FB! I love it!!!!!!!

I teared up too and thought I was a total wack:)

  • Laura - Haha, that was sooooo awesome! I teared up too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Allison - Imagine the reception! I teared up too… shhhhh.

Labs will always have a special place in my heart. My first dog was a black lab named Tessie. She was sweet, playful, and extremely tolerant of our antics. They are perfect companions. There’s just something about a lab’s temperament that makes them impossible not to be happy around. I had a blast chasing these three around…

Vita…

Maggie… and her stick…

And the baby of the family… Lucy…

Despite their age differences, they all get along so well! Here they are playing with something that is obviously better than any toy… a dog bed.

  • megan v - april! the last picture is my favorite ever. i love when my puppies do this but this is hysterical!

  • Donna - April — I love these pics, especially the last one. Obviously labs have a special place in my heart. My first was a black lab named Belle, and of course my current yellow lab, Lexie. And BTW, she’s doing good following the ACL surgery last week — getting along better every day. Long road to go, but so far so good.

  • nick - Haha one of each colour.. that last shot is wonderful ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Jennie - awwwww look at the labbies! Carl always wanted a lab of every color, but I’m not sure I can do the lab puppy thing again, lol. Love the shot of the three of them, too cute ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Emily Beaty - How cute and one of each color, too! That last one is hilarious. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • claire - april that shot of maggie with her stick is awesome! what a totally cool perspective.

  • Jess Kamm - I especially love the one of the 3 dogs! so cute!

Today, my husband called me at work to tell me that it had arrived. I begged him to open the package and start charging the battery for me so it would be ready when I got home. “Is it beautiful??” I asked. I could almost hear him roll his eyes. I suppose it’s something that only photographers can understand. The work day passed so dreadfully slowly, as if it knew that I was counting the minutes until I got to meet my shiny new 5D MkII!

Shot taken at ISO2500… I think we’re going to have a mighty fine relationship…
